Being an event coordinator is such a tough job. The success of any event, big or small, depends on how an event coordinator works. The concept of crowd control is always a top priority. I've seen events go horribly wrong because crowd control was not taken into account. Of course an event cannot go on smoothly if the crowds are not organized. A recent example that comes into mind is the stampede of people going to the variety show in the Philippines. Hundreds died in that event because barricades could not keep the people from rushing in to the venue.
Any event needs to have crowd control in mind. It is a must for an event coordinator to ensure order in any event that he or she is handling. Even simple events like exhibits are able to make use of stanchions to keep people from touching or getting too close to the displays. They also make use of velvet rope to make it more elegant. Sporting events are good examples of well-organized event coordinators. In most cases, they can handle even an alcohol-fuelled crowd. There are exceptions of a few soccer events in Europe and Latin America. Deaths have been reported in these events.
